The best shoe deals come from brand sale sections, outlet and clearance stores, and department stores during big sales, and the cheapest time to buy is Black Friday week and the end of each season. In October 2026, Nike had up to 40% off select styles and adidas up to 50% off fall favorites with no code needed. Between the two big sneaker brands, neither is always cheaper: adidas gives a bigger group discount, 30% through ID.me, but excludes many of its most wanted lifestyle shoes, while Nike's group discounts are only 10% but members get 60 days to return shoes and a 14 day price adjustment. This guide shows where and when to look, compares Nike and adidas rule by rule from their own US help and terms pages, and tracks real prices for 15 popular sneakers, checked on October 26, 2026. It is part of our money saving tips.
When shoes go on sale
Shoes go on sale at predictable times: Black Friday and Cyber Monday week, end of season sales when new colorways arrive, back to school in late summer, and after the holidays. In 2025, Nike.com advertised up to 50% off best sellers for Black Friday, and in 2026 Black Friday falls on November 27.
| When | Why it is a good time | What to buy |
|---|---|---|
| Black Friday week (November 27 to 30, 2026) | The biggest brand and department store sales of the year | Running and lifestyle sneakers, boots |
| End of season | Brands clear outgoing styles for new colorways | Last season's running shoes and sandals |
| Back to school (late summer) | Stores push kids' and teens' shoes | Kids' sneakers and school shoes |
| After the holidays | Winter styles get marked down | Boots and winter shoes |
| Your birthday | Nike Members get a 10% birthday discount, valid for about 60 days | Anything at Nike |
Black Friday is November 27, 2026, and Cyber Monday is November 30. When we checked on October 26, Nike had not announced its 2026 Black Friday sale, while adidas's Black Friday deals page was already live with markdowns but no published end date; the price log below shows what was on sale. Our Black Friday and Cyber Monday plan shows how to track prices before the big week.
Best stores and sites for shoe deals
The best places for shoe deals are each brand's own sale section, department stores that carry many brands, and online shoe stores with free shipping and returns. As of October 2026, Nike's sale section had up to 40% off select styles, adidas had up to 50% off fall favorites, and Zappos offered free shipping and free returns within 60 days.
| Store or site | Why it is good for deals, as of October 2026 | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Nike sale section | Up to 40% off select styles; members get free shipping from $50 | Codes exclude some launches |
| adidas sale section | Up to 50% off fall favorites; adiClub members get free standard shipping | Final sale items |
| Kohl's | Sells Nike and adidas; Kohl's Cash and Rewards on top | Some brands exclude percent off codes |
| Macy's | 25% to 40% off Nike and adidas activewear in mid October 2026 | One promo code per order |
| Zappos | Free shipping on all orders and free returns within 60 days | Final sale items cannot be returned |
| Amazon | Lightning Deals and Resale on returned shoes | Check the seller and the condition |
Zappos' return window is 60 days for items in new condition, according to its current shipping and returns page (Zappos, checked October 2026). Some older Zappos pages still mention 365 days; the current policy is 60.
Nike vs adidas at a glance
Nike and adidas reward different shoppers. adidas's 30% group discount is three times Nike's 10%, but it excludes select Samba, Gazelle, Campus and Spezial styles, among others. Nike gives members 60 days to return shoes and refunds the difference if a regular Nike sale drops the price within 14 days; adidas publishes no such policy.

Group discounts, with the fine print
Group discounts are where the two brands differ most.
Nike: 10% for verified groups
| Who | Discount | Where it works | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Military (active, reserve, veteran, retired, plus spouses and dependents of active personnel) | 10% | Nike.com, Nike App and US Nike stores with a valid military ID | Not valid at Nike Company Stores; online code covers the first $500 of a purchase |
| Students, 16 and older | 10% | Nike.com and Nike App only | Not valid in stores |
| Teachers, faculty and staff | 10% | Nike.com and Nike App only | Not valid in stores |
| First responders and medical professionals | 10% | Nike.com and Nike App only | Not valid in stores |
For every online group discount, Nike gives you a single-use code after you verify through SheerID. Each code expires two weeks after it is issued, and you can get a new one once every seven days. Nike's military terms exclude Nike By You, gift cards, select launch and SNKRS products and Apple products, and say the military code can only be combined with free shipping codes. Check the terms of each program for its own exclusions.
adidas: 30% through ID.me
adidas offers its discount to verified military members (active, veterans, retirees, spouses and dependents), first responders, teachers, nurses, medical providers, hospital employees and seniors 65 and over. You verify through ID.me, and the discount works online, in adidas stores and at factory outlets, with limits on how often:
- Online: up to 2 discounts a month.
- In stores: 1 discount a month.
- Factory outlets: 1 discount a month.
The catch is the exclusion list. On October 26, 2026, adidas excluded select Gazelle, select Samba, Campus, SL 72, select Spezial, 4D, select Ultraboost, select Y-3, Pharrell x adidas, Disney, Human Made, limited edition Originals, select NMD, select Stan Smith, select Superstar, select adizero, final sale items, gift cards and the Confirmed app. That is most of the lifestyle range. So for a Samba or Campus, check the exclusion note before you count on 30%.
Which is better? If you qualify for both and want running or training gear, adidas's 30% usually wins. For adidas's lifestyle icons, which are often excluded, a sale price is usually your best route, and the price log below shows those sales can beat 30%. Our military discounts and teacher discounts lists cover other shoe brands.
Nike's price adjustment, in plain words
Nike's Member Price Adjustment Policy, as of October 26, 2026, works like this:
- Who: Nike Members only.
- What: something you bought on Nike.com or in the Nike App.
- When: if an eligible Nike sale or promotion lowers the price within 14 days of your purchase.
- Match: the lower-priced item must be in stock on Nike.com and identical, with the same style number, SKU, color and size.
- How: contact Nike within 14 days with the product details, and Nike refunds the difference to your original payment method. One adjustment per product.
Nike's terms also list what the adjustment does not apply to. The list includes BOGO deals, sitewide promotions, final sale, coupons, birthday offers, employee discounts, Nike By You, Nike Refurbished, SNKRS app products, products bought at another retailer, and lower prices found only in a physical store. Nike Clearance store purchases are not eligible either.
This makes buying at full price on Nike.com before a sale less risky. But a price adjustment comes from a regular Nike sale, not from a code. Nike lists coupons among the things the adjustment does not apply to, and it does not say an order paid with a promo code can also get a later adjustment. So plan on one or the other: either use your code now, or buy at full price and watch for a sale within 14 days. If you want both, ask Nike's chat before you rely on it.
adidas does not publish a price adjustment policy on its US help pages. If an adidas price drops after you buy, the safest move within the return window is to return the item and buy it again at the new price, if it is still in stock in your size.
What actually stacks at Nike and adidas
At Nike: one percent-off promo code per order. Nike's promo terms say percent-off codes cannot be combined with each other, only with free shipping codes, and codes cannot be applied to orders already placed. Sale prices need no code. Whether a code also works on a sale item depends on that code's own terms, so check the total in your bag.
At adidas: your ID.me discount on shoes that are not on its exclusion list, or the 15% code adidas offers for joining adiClub. We could not find an adidas rule on whether these work on sale prices, so check the total in your bag before you pay.
The order to do it in:
- Join the free membership first, Nike Membership or adiClub, before you put anything in your bag. It unlocks free shipping, and at adidas the 15% sign-up code.
- Check the sale section for the exact model and size you want. Discounts are colorway by colorway (see the log below).
- Add one code if the shoe is eligible: your group discount, Nike's birthday offer or adidas's adiClub code, and check that the bag total actually drops.
- At Nike, decide on code or price adjustment. If you paid full price with no code, keep an eye on the price for 14 days.
Our guide on how to stack coupons explains which kinds of discounts usually combine at other stores.

What the price log tells you about when to buy
These points come from what we logged, not from general advice, and we will update them as the log grows.
- adidas started its Black Friday markdowns early. On October 26, 2026, a month before Black Friday, adidas's Black Friday deals page was already live, with Gazelle, Superstar II and one Samba OG colorway at up to 50% off and the Campus 00s at 30% off. If you want one of those, there is no need to wait for November 27.
- adidas's sales beat its group discount on its icons. The Campus 00s was 30% off for everyone, and adidas excludes the Campus from its 30% ID.me discount anyway. For Samba, Gazelle and Spezial, the sale page was the only way to get a discount on many colorways.
- Nike's deepest cuts were on runners and older colorways. The Pegasus 42 was 32% off in a best-selling men's colorway, and the Vomero 18 was 14% to 25% off. The standard white Air Force 1 '07 and the standard Air Jordan 1 Low were at full price.
- Discounts are colorway by colorway. Every model on sale had other colorways at full price. If you are flexible on color, you will pay less.
- "See Price in Bag" means a hidden lower price. Several Nike best sellers showed this instead of a price. Adding the shoe to your bag reveals the sale price, and there is no obligation to buy.
- Older versions disappear fast. The Pegasus 41 was only listed in kids' sizes once the Pegasus 42 was out, so do not wait for last year's model to drop further if your size is already gone.
Outlet and clearance shoe shopping
Outlet and clearance stores sell past season and overstock shoes below regular prices, and they often add their own markdowns on top. adidas's 30% ID.me group discount also works at its factory outlets, once a month, while Nike Clearance store purchases are final sale, as of October 2026.
How to shop outlets and clearance well:
- Know the regular price. Check the brand's own site before you go, so you know whether the outlet price is a real saving.
- Check the return policy first. Clearance and some outlet purchases are final.
- Try them on. Sizing can vary between models and years.
- Ask about group discounts. adidas's ID.me discount works at outlets, but check its exclusion list first.
- Consider refurbished. Nike Refurbished sells returned shoes graded by condition, in select Nike stores; read whether Nike refurbished shoes are worth it first.
How to buy shoes online without paying for returns
To buy shoes online without paying for returns, shop where returns are free, check the size chart and reviews, and keep the shoes clean and boxed until you know they fit. Nike Members get free returns within 60 days, and Zappos offers free returns within 60 days for items in new condition, as of October 2026. Most adidas online orders have 30 days.
- Join the free membership first. Nike and adidas members get free standard shipping, and Nike Members get 60 days to return.
- Read the size notes. Reviews often say if a model runs small or large.
- Order two sizes when returns are free, then send one back in its original box.
- Try them indoors. Wear new shoes on carpet so they stay in returnable condition.
- Return before the window closes. Set a reminder for the last day.
- Avoid final sale items unless you already know your size in that exact model.

Shoe deals FAQs
When is the best time to buy shoes?
Black Friday week is the best time, when brands and department stores run their biggest sales; in 2026 that is November 27 to 30. End of season sales are next, when brands clear outgoing styles, followed by back to school in late summer and after holiday markdowns on winter boots. In our October 26, 2026 price log, adidas already had Black Friday markdowns of up to 50% on popular lifestyle styles, while Nike's biggest discounts were on running shoes like the Pegasus 42.
Where can I find shoe deals online?
Start with each brand's own sale section: in October 2026, Nike had up to 40% off select styles and adidas up to 50% off fall favorites. Then check department stores such as Kohl's and Macy's, which carry both brands with their own rewards, and online stores like Zappos that offer free shipping and free returns within 60 days.
Is Nike or adidas cheaper?
It depends on the shoe and on who you are. On October 26, 2026, adidas had deeper sale prices on its lifestyle icons, up to 50% off, while Nike's biggest cuts were on running shoes. adidas's 30% group discount is bigger than Nike's 10%, but it excludes many popular adidas styles.
Does Nike have a military discount?
Yes. Nike gives 10% off most items to active, reserve, veteran and retired US military personnel and to spouses and dependents of active personnel. It works on Nike.com, in the Nike App and in US Nike stores with a valid military ID, but not at Nike Company Stores.
Does Nike give a refund if the price drops?
Yes, for Nike Members, on items bought on Nike.com or in the Nike App. If an eligible Nike sale lowers the price within 14 days, Nike refunds the difference. It does not apply to coupons, birthday offers, BOGO or sitewide promotions, SNKRS, Nike Refurbished or in-store purchases.
Can you use a Nike promo code and get a price adjustment?
Nike's terms list coupons among the things its price adjustment does not apply to, and they do not promise an adjustment on orders paid with a code. Plan on using either a code or a later price adjustment, not both, and ask Nike before relying on both.
Which shoes are excluded from the adidas 30% discount?
On October 26, 2026, adidas excluded select Gazelle, select Samba, Campus, SL 72, select Spezial, select Ultraboost, select Stan Smith, select Superstar, select adizero, limited edition Originals, several collaborations, final sale items and gift cards, among others.
